I began with the question: how can I show change and evolution at the same time? Since a Z-axis wasn’t possible on my 2D graph, I created a system of circles to show the number of female award winners each year. Combined with a line graph with years on the x-axis and the percentage of female jury members on the y-axis—this gave a clear overview that suggests a slight correlation between female jury representation and female award winners. The piece was originally designed for Riso printing, which limited the palette to black, blue, red, and green. I chose red to symbolize both the passion of winning and the daily fight for recognition.
